Jaime Gough was an innocent victim in a killing that shocked Florida.

In grade school, you are supposed to have fun with your friends, play outside, and make memories. It’s the fun years before high school. This isn’t the time to wonder whether you can really trust your friends.

Unfortunately for Jaime, he learned too late that he couldn’t trust his best friend. One morning in 2004, he was tricked into a bathroom stall by his best friend, who ended up taking his life in a dramatic killing that would shock everyone who came into contact with the case.

The killer in question thought he had figured everything out, but he didn’t clean up the crime scene. In addition, he walked around the school with blood spatter on his clothes. Lastly, he left witnesses even though he had made notes for himself, saying that he would kill anyone who saw him.

The killer in question, Michael Hernandez, was Jaime’s best friend. Jaime trusted him to be his protector and best friend, but instead, Michael had a desire to kill – and he had a list of people he wanted to kill.

But because Michael was 14 when the crime happened, he would have an opportunity to have freedom as he was a juvenile. A change in Florida law regarding juveniles serving a life sentence for murder would have a chance at freedom. This is where the case changed everything for the Gough family and everyone who loved Jaime Gough.
